The level where a horse is competitive depends on its race rating. Trainer Consultation can recommend a level, but the horse may still be competitive one level above or below that suggestion.
Surface and distance preferences appear on the horse’s page. Racing within those preferences offers the best performance. Going preferences, such as fast, muddy, or soft, may provide a small advantage when matched; there is no penalty for racing away from a going preference.
